Merlinite is known by a few different names. Merlinite is the metaphysical name but it is also referred to as dendritic opal, dendritic chalcedony, and dendritic agate.
It is easily confused with dendritic agate, however, merlinite is comprised of a milky white, translucent to opaque chalcedony quartz with the inclusion of black dendrites formed by the mineral psilomelane. The dendrites in dendritic agate are usually from an iron or manganese inclusion.
