Ammonites are extinct molluscs that lived between 60-420 million years ago. They were an abundant species that inhabited the oceans over an extremely long period of time, surviving the adversities and challenges of harsh and ever-changing conditions.

These fossils sometimes become opalized, meaning that their outer shell displays some vibrant flashes of colour and fire, much like a precious opal. When this opalized shell is cut and shaped, it is sold as ammolite.

These fossils are believed to symbolise the strength and adaptability that was required by these creatures to survive as well as the longevity that they achieved. They are said to hold the ancient energy of the creatures that inhabited them.
